Unlike information found in newspapers or television broadcasts, information available on the Internet is not checked for quality or accuracy; therefore, it is particularly important for the individual Internet user to evaluate the source of information. Keep in mind that almost anyone can publish anything they wish on the Web. Techcrunch reports that 82% of the surveyed students can’t tell the difference between fake news and real news. Misinformation in the news, hits all time high records! Our mission is to give everyone a powerful, yet simple tool so anyone in this world can fact-check any news article on the web, by themselves, in seconds.
True for our algorithm are what independent, non-for-profit news sources like Associated Press have fact-checked and already covered. Also, we are considering truth, what independent fact-checking organizations like Politifact, Snopes and others have fact-checked.
We are using the power of IBM Watson to enhance every news article with Natural Language Understanding technologies. We are using Google as a "database" so FightHoax evolves as the news story evolves. We scan the world's news sources and blogs like if it were a database. Many natural language processing techniques are being in order to assess if a news article contains legit and trusted information. Our algorithm understands the content of each news article like humans do, then, it performs logical steps that human fact-checkers perform by doing comparisons. In addition, our algorithm analyzes the language used, the author of the article and many more factors to calculate the outcome.
Our algorithm has the unique ability to detect tiny but important words in any article. We let our algorithm understand every different aspect about the article like the topic, the sentiment of each sentence, taxonomy, entities and every tiny part of speech. So, if someone copy-pastes an article from a trusted source, or a part of it, but paraphrases small but important selections, even just few words, we warn the user about it and suggest that they read a more trusted article instead.
FightHoax.com is not an AI fact-checking algorithm. We are doing great at judging news articles. We can't judge someone's opinion; therefore our algorithm does not evaluate the trustworthiness of an opinion article.

We are as much powerful as much information exists in the Internet. So, if you suspect that a news article contains false facts, wait at least 2 to 5 full days for the internet to create buzz and then use our magic sauce. This way, we can prevent misinformation from spreading even when a 'trusted' news source publishes something that has not been actaully fact-checked.
FightHoax is currently in the private-beta phase. Access is given to high-end users like journalists, founders of AI news startups, people who can appreciate the tech behind each result. If you think that you are one of them, get in touch with us.
